How can I support Canadianmqc?

The ways you can support the Collective are almost limitless! We happily accept donations in the forms of time, expertise, digital labour and money. Current specific needs can be found on our Get Involved page or feel free to reach out to us via email amanda@canadianmqc.ca. Monetary donations can be made here. Rest assured all monies donated will be meticulously tracked (and reports shared) and used only for the running of the Canadian Modern Quilt Collective.

What is a collective?

A collective is a group of people who share a common interest and work together to achieve a common goal. This collective started out with one person but the vision has always been to provide a space for the Modern Quilters of Canada to congregate and take this into the direction they would like.

Isn’t this just a Quilt Guild?

I suppose the Collective is very similar to a guild in some aspects. When setting up the Collective the goal was specifically just to share photos on instagram. I envisioned a virtual place where we could all contribute, share, learn and get inspired by other Canadian Modern Quilters. My vision has slowly grown and the possibilities are endless. I felt like Collective invokes the notion that participants belong and can take ownership of it.

Is the Canadianmqc a for profit business?

Simply, no. Specifically, up to this point I have put countless hours in to curate our Instagram page, organize The Great Canadian Shop Hop and try to plan out what this organization is and could be. All of this has been done out of a sense of love for the potential of our Collective. Any money that will be collected will be used to pay for this website, business development and hourly compensation for any staff/contractors. The ultimate goal will be for the Canadianmqc to become a designated non-profit, charity or similar where all monies collected will be used to keep the organization running, giving back to the community and having epic events (virtual and in real life). I am really hoping that people of our collective will have expertise in this area and will be able to help guide this process.

What makes you an authority on Modern Quilting in Canada?

Ok, so this isn’t actually a question anyone has asked me. However, it is a question that I ask myself every single day. I’m not an authority but I do care an awful lot! Every day I explore what our modern quilters are making and I am blown away by their amazing talent! The scope of Modern Quilting is ever changing and is interpreted in so many different ways. I try to check my idea of what modern is at the door and really embrace what each person is saying they consider modern. I’m not here to make a judgement, I’m here to help share the love.
